Religious Ministry Facility
This architectural design successfully blended four key elements: respect of image, function, environment, and economy.
This single-story 22,766 square foot religious facility is designed around a main chapel with seating for 520 people and a small chapel with seating for 42 people set up for 24 hour private worship. Supporting rooms to the main spaces include a sacristy, a crying room, reconciliation rooms, and various other spaces. Designed to support the community in the heart of the Kaneohe Marine Corp Base, the facility also houses administrative areas, offices, and seven large flexible classrooms for hosting community events.
The exterior architecture was cleverly expressive to give the building its own unique identity while successfully following program requirements to blend in with a multi-phased complex known as the “superblock” established by the Commissary, Exchange, Food Court, and Post Office.
